6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Presenter: Lucia Daugherty, Equity and Inclusion Educator/Consultant
We will discuss some key points regarding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion focused investments for the agency and in your work with students and their families. Additionally, we will examine unconscious bias from a neurological (brain science) perspective. We will identify the way that our brain is innately wired, as relates to bias, and discuss how our biases show up in our real-world daily interactions.
Nonprofits, businesses, schools and other institutions, sometimes have larger goals around achieving equity internal to their operation. In the journey towards reaching these larger goals, team members should have safe/brave spaces to learn and reflect on individual and small group levels, so that they can better carry out their daily work using an equity lens while engaging with each other, the students/families, and the community. Gaining an understanding of our own unconscious bias is one of the most effective ways to do so.
