Presenter: Nicole Randall,Education Specialist, Healthy Social Behaviors Initiative

Boys, especially high energy and boys of color, continue to be expelled from pre-kindergarten programs across the U.S. One study suggests that “boys “are treated like defective girls” implying that boys’ slower developmental rates, physical response styles and kinetic learning behaviors are seen as deficits and teachers wish them to be firmly and swiftly “corrected”. In this high energy session, we will discuss common issues teachers identify concerning boys and suggest ways that teachers can create a learning environment that supports and engages boys (as well as girls). Accepted by DCDEE as 5 contact hours toward training requirements. (0.5 CEU)
