Message From Executive Director, Maurean B. Adams
Dear
Friends,
The Children & Family Resource Center has been acting
on behalf of local families since we opened our doors in 1999.
We provide resources for the general public, parents and early
childhood professionals at our new facility where we generate
community wide solutions by bringing together others in search
of new and better ways to meet the needs of our community.
We make a difference in the lives of thousands of people in
our community each year. This report outlines how we do it.
We
are involved in our community.
Our
staff and Board members are involved with many groups who
are concerned for the children of our community and working
for systemic change. Our agency serves on the Mental Health
Task Force looking at Methamphetamine and its impact on children
in our county, the Community Child Protection Team which is
concerned with the high rate of child abuse and neglect in
our county, the Child Fatality Prevention Team which is concerned
with the causes and reduction of child deaths in the community,
the Family Violence Task Force which is concerned with helping
families live free of violence, the Family Support Network
which provides support services to families with children
who have special needs, and many more professional and communal
groups.
We
know the needs of our community.
For
the past two years, we have been collecting data to identify
the 'current state of the child' in Henderson County.
We will present our findings to the community during a Children's
Summit on October 20, 2007 where a demographically representative
group of citizens will be asked to analyze the data and help
set priorities for our children. These priorities will
be presented to key leaders and the County Commissioners and
will inform the strategic plans of local agencies and organizations
that provide services to children and families.
Our
staff members are highly qualified, motivated and inspired.
Staff
members have presented at state and national conventions,
allowing them to share their experiences and knowledge. Our
programs have earned recognition for their success and recently
our staff and volunteers were recognized locally by the Civitans
as Citizens of the Year.
The thing that makes us successful in Henderson County is
YOU! Your financial gifts over the past year have allowed
us to respond to the immediate and critical needs of local
children and families. They have also enabled us to leverage
support and funding from other sources. THANK YOU!
Sincerely,
Maurean
B. Adams
P.S. When I report to you next year, more than 1,000 children
will have been born in Henderson County. Such potential and
promise! I invite you to dream big with us….big, bodacious
dreams for these children.
