Planned Giving Options

You can make a planned gift to the Children & Family Resource Center by naming the center as a beneficiary of your last will and testament, a beneficiary of a charitable trust,  or your life insurance policy or retirement plan.  Your attorney or financial advisor can advise you of the various types of charitable trusts and assist you in establishing a trust that is tailored to your personal needs.

You can make tax-free gifts from your IRA.

Under the extended charitable IRA legislation for 2013, you can make charitable gifts now to The Children & Family Resource Center  using funds from your individual retirement accounts (IRAs) without undesirable tax effects.  Until the end of 2013, these IRA gifts can be accomplished simply and without tax complications. Plus, you can make the gifts now—while you are able to witness the benefits of your generosity.

You may contribute funds this way if:

  • You are age 70½ or older at the time of the gift.
  • You transfer up to $100,000 directly from your IRA. This opportunity applies only to IRAs and not other types of retirement plans.
  • You make your gift by Dec. 31, 2013.
  • You transfer the funds outright to one or more qualified charities. The legislation does not permit direct transfers to charitable trusts, donor advised funds, charitable gift annuities or supporting organizations.

Does your employer match gifts?

Many companies offer employee matching gift programs, meaning that when an employee makes a donation to a non-profit organization, the corporation will “match” that donation with an equal (or greater) amount to the same group. Donors who work for companies with matching gift programs can double the impact of their donation by soliciting a matching gift from their employer.

Some of the above-mentioned planned giving strategies may have a greater tax benefit to you than others, so please consult with your attorney or financial advisor on which strategy would work best for you.
