Once Upon A Time Reading Program

The Once Upon a Time Reading Program is a literacy program that brings volunteer readers into your child care center to read and lead literacy activities with the children.

The Children & Family Resource Center trains volunteer storytellers to lead interactive story times that promote early literacy skills and a love for reading in local child care and preschool programs.

The program helps children prepare to become good readers by helping them develop oral language skills and phonological awareness, develop print awareness and letter knowledge and learn to appreciate various literary forms. Trained volunteers spend an hour providing an engaging story time experience to young children.  When volunteers are in the classroom it impacts everyone.
