The APP is a secondary pregnancy prevention program available to adolescents who reside in Henderson County and who are either pregnant or parenting for the first time.

APP Objectives

• Prevent a second pregnancy

• Earn a high school diploma or equivalent

• Enhance parenting skills

• Utilize appropriate health care and community services for self and child

• Prepare for employment

• Prevent child abuse and neglect

• Develop a strong sense of self-worth

The Adolescent Parenting Program
is made possible through cooperation between the Department of Social Services and the Children and Family Resource Center of Henderson County.

The Center and other programs within provide a one-stop, convenient access to many services that support Henderson County families.

The Children and Family Resource Center is located off of Upward Road at 851 Case Street in Hendersonville.

Participants in the Adolescent
Parenting Program can expect:

• One-on-one visits from the APP Coordinator and/or Volunteer Mentor

• Monthly peer/support group meeting featuring topics relevant to teen parenting

• Transportation assistance to school and medical appointments

• Social and educational activities and field trips

• Monthly newsletter

• Incentive gifts for active program participation

• The opportunity for new and meaningful friendships

• Success!!  Adolescent Parenting Programs are currently offered in over 30 counties in North Carolina and they are working!  Over eighty percent of the adolescents enrolled in the program earned a high school diploma or equivalency, avoided a second pregnancy, and many went on to complete advanced educational goals.
