Finding Quality Child Care

Selecting the right caregiver will greatly influence your child’s ability to succeed in school, and in life, for years to come.

Whether you’re looking for someone to care for your child while you work, or you know that now is the time for your child’s development outside of the home to begin, locating a trusted, safe and beneficial care program for your child is among the most important decisions you’ll ever make. To learn which child care programs have vacancies in your area, or for general information about finding quality child care, contact the Regional Call Center:

Choosing Quality Child Care

The NC Division of Child Development and the NC Child Care Commission have created the Five Star Rated License System to help you identify a quality child care program for your child.  The Star Rated License includes an assessment of both staff education and program standards, more stars equals higher quality.  You can also find more information here.

A checklist of important items to consider has been provided below. Print this checklist and use it as a guide and worksheet as you interview each child care provider.
