The Children & Family Resource Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and has operated continuously for over ten years. During that time, we have served approximately 6,000 children and families per year. Current programs address various aspects of early childhood development and education, quality child care, parenting and family support.
1995 -The Community Foundation of Henderson County initiated a three year study to address barriers that make it difficult for families to access local services. This Children’s Initiative focused on improving the lives of children through affordable quality childcare, the development and improvement of parenting skills, and changes in service deliver. A high priority was given to consolidating services, promoting communication and collaboration, and simplifying access to children’s services.
1998 - The Children and Family Resource Center (CFRC) was created in November 1998 as a direct result of the study recommendations. CFRC integrated three separate non-profit agencies and two human service agencies within Henderson County. We adopted the “best practices” of all agencies and began operation in as a “one stop” resource that provides parents with multiple direct services and referrals. This model conserves assets and revenues and eliminates redundancies in agencies dedicated to children.
1999 - The Children & Family Resource Center opens it’s doors in a historic home on 5th Avenue in downtown Hendersonville in April 1999.
2001 - Developed OurKidsOnLine.org, a community web-portal that was used to inform the United Way 211 system for Western North Carolina.
2000-2002 – At the request of the County Commissioners, the Children & Family Resource Center completed the Strategic Plan for Children which identified five areas of critical need for children and families in Henderson County, analyzed community resources and showed where services were needed most.
2005 - The Children & Family Resource Center builds and moves into a permanent home located at 851 Case Street in Hendersonville with the dream of providing space for a non-profit campus, which now houses several non-profit organizations.
2006 – Serve as lead agency for the United Agenda for Children, a coalition that ensures that children in Henderson County are safe, healthy and well educated.
2007 – The United Agenda for Children hosts Speak Out for Kids where local citizens set priorities for children in our community. Continue to lead the United Agenda for Children in an effort to address those priorities.
